To Blog or Not to Blog?

If you’re like me, you want to do everything you can (within reason and time permitting) to further promote your business. For the past few years blogs have become a favorable place to spend some business development time. What is a blog?

If you’re asking then you need to get out a little more. In the purest sense, a blog is like an online journal for all to see.Blogs serve many purposes for business owners, but by no means are they the silver bullet one might hope to use to launch their business into the stratosphere. Blogs are simply one of many bullets you should have in your marketing revolver.

Some of the benefits associated with blogging are as follows:

1. Blogging forces you to take time out to write about your business or a subject relative to your field. This is a great task for further sharpening your own opinions, knowledge and musings.Me? I love to comment on a recent shoot, a recent experience, a recent thought. I prefer to be image driven as much of my career is centered around visuals.

2. The content you create through blogging furthers you or your brand in the minds of your clients. Not only does it give clients a perspective on you and your business (which is good for building rapport) but it also attracts a following of people interested in watching your business grow or evolve. Did I mention that people are pretty much voyeurs at their core.Me? I have people that follow my blogs. Every now and then I’ll get a comment and feel a little sheepish about someone looking in on my thoughts … then I remember that’s what my goal is.

3. Search engines love blogs. Nothing seems to be more attractive to search engines that fresh new updated content. Notice I said “content.” When you write content relative to your business you will attract people interested in what you do.Me? I’ve seen Google acknowledge/notice one of my blog posts within a 24 hour period. When I google myself I see many more listings than I would had I not been blogging.

4. You tell me. Are you blogging? What benefit(s) are you finding?

How to get started? You’ll see me quote this over and over … ‚”The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.‚” – Walt Disney

So, have you been talking about blogging? I’d say it’s probably time to close your mouth and open you mind … and let the blogging begin.
