Spam Troubles

No doubt some of you have seen an increase in the amount of spam arriving in your email inbox over the past few weeks. We’re very aware of this and have been working on some solutions to reduce the spam to a bare minimum.

In the meantime, here are a few steps you can take to ensure your email is setup to reduce your exposure to being targeted by email spammers.

1. Make sure you don’t have a “default” email address setup with dogbark. By this we mean that you only have email addresses (aliases) setup that you use. Instead of having “any-email”@yourdomain.com be delivered to your email account, just setup an alias for the email address you’d like to have. This can be done in the account manager at Dogbark.com. If you’re not sure what to do here, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help.

2. Remove your email address from your website. Instead of putting your email address on your site, use a “contact form” instead. We’ve got some pre-installed forms to help you with this. Here’s a guide on how to do this: http://dogbark.com/howto/programming/emailforms.php

3. Use your ‘junk mail’ filter on your email program (Apple Mail, Entourage, Outlook, etc). This will train your email program to catch the unwanted spam emails before you see them in your inbox.

4. Host your website and email with Dogbark.com. Our spam filters catch, on average, 85% of our customers email as spam. On top of that 85%, you’re getting great tips like this to help reduce the spam even further.
