Paradise or Inferno?

I live in a world where anything other than Mac is likely from the Devil. So, around here, Christmas comes at different times of the year … when the UPS guys shows up with a lovely box from Apple. This week, Christmas came on Tuesday.

Tuesday afternoon I found myself looking at a lovely 23″ Apple Cinema display. Mine. You could actually here the “aaaahhhh” of angels as I sat looking at the wonderful clarity, color and size. But the sunshine of the moment turned dark and cloudy as I discovered some very subtle bands of blur and odd image jumping/shifting.

In an odd, half-full way, I was a little encouraged that I even noticed such subtlety being that my eyes aren’t what they were in my youth when I’d anally kern 7 point type. But, what I saw was real. Blur. Shift. Jump.

Had Apple let me down? Was this highly coveted display simple the product of an excellently executed marketing scheme? Was my CPU the culprit trying to sabotage my lustful moment? Had the forbidden fruit led me astray?I had to find out.

I made my Genious Bar appointment with the good folks at the Apple store in Green Hills (Nashville, TN). So, this morning I’m there anxiously at the entrance for my 7 am appointment. As I’m unpacking my display and Mini I’m explaining the symptoms. My Apple Genius casually states what may be the problem. Within 30 seconds of booting and checking a setting under the Universal Access in the System Preferences he confirms the errant issue and exercises the evil doers.

You see, what I was seeing was a function that allows a display image to zoom. It was actually zoomed by a one or two pixels in width and height. It created an odd shifting that for me was reminiscent of a feature in the old days with my 17″ CRT an OS of years prior … like 1998 or so.

Well, once again, I’m very pleased with the Apple product and with the excellent service dulled out from their Genius Bar.

Another day in Paradise.
