Leopard: A few quick favorites
Let’s see, here are a few of my use-’em-all-the-time features:
- Spaces. Without a doubt, the most used new feature for me. I have six spaces set up: one for generic browsing; one for communication - email, iChat, Twitterific; one for coding - Textmate, Terminal, Transmit; one for iCal; and two spares that I can launch new programs in. Spaces is incredible for being able to have multiple things going on, yet being able to focus on just one project at a time.
- Time Machine. I’ve never been as good about backing up my computer as I’ve wanted to be, and TM makes it easy. It took awhile to do the seed backup of everything, but now, once an hour, it backs up any changes, and only takes a minute or two. All in the background. Beautiful.
- a million tweaks to iChat. The tabbed chat collection is great, as it keeps my desktop tidy when I have a number of conversations going on. Screen sharing is amazing, and is going to be a great tool when we’re helping someone with email settings, etc. Being able to have multiple AIM accounts logged in at once is a huge blessing - I can have my personal account running while I’m logged into the dogbarksupport account.
- QuickLook. I love not having to fire up applications to see what a poorly-named file actually is, whether it’s something someone sent, something I’ve downloaded, or just my own laziness.
- Stacks. I had my Applications folder in my Dock already, but this is even better. Applications, Utilities, Downloads, Documents - all right there.
That’s it for now. What’s your favorite new feature?
