Hivelogic: Installing Ruby, Rubygems, Rails, and Mongrel on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Yes, I’m a geek. And I like exploring new technologies - so much that I often feel like a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. I’m not good at settling down and learning all of the deep subtleties of a given technology.

Rails has been around for awhile, and is an amazing development framework. The guys that built it looked at all of the existing systems, and focused on simplifying the path from idea to working model. If you watch some of the screencasts from the Rails link, you’ll see guys building a working blog (among other examples) within a matter of minutes.

When Apple launched Leopard, they included a good working install of Rails, but with a few niggles here and there. Dan Benjamin has been posting very readable how-to guides for getting Rails running on OS X since the early days of Rails, and this guide is no exception - thorough, clear, and easy to follow. Good for building a development environment on your Mac, which you can then roll out to a live hosting provider.

While hosting Rails sites is not our bread-and-butter, we do host a number of them. Let us know if you have a Rails site you want to host!
